PAP 22 — paper. What the code on packaging means
PAP 22 is the material code for paper — a fibrous material lighter than board, used in bags, wraps, interleaves and grease-proof inserts. In pastry packaging PAP 22 usually appears alongside PAP 21: the paper protects the product on the inside, the solid board gives shape and rigidity.
A grease-proof paper insert (PAP 22) protects the board from soaking through — so the box can be recycled clean.

Where we use PAP 22 paper
Paper in our packaging plays several roles at once — it protects, separates and lets the product be handled safely:
- Bags for doughnuts, sweet buns and bread — with or without a window.
- Grease-proof inserts for macaron, éclair and cream-product boxes.
- Interleaves separating layers of biscuits and pralines.
- Wraps and bands that personalise a plain box.
Grease-proof paper and recycling
Grease resistance can be achieved in several ways. Glazed and calendered papers remain pure PAP 22. Papers with a plastic-based barrier coating are already a composite — the correct code is then C/PAP 81 and the material goes into a different stream. When selecting an insert we always state which code applies, so the marking on the pack matches its real construction.
PAP 22 and food-contact requirements
Paper in direct contact with the product must have a declaration of compliance for food contact and come from a controlled source. We maintain traceability for every paper batch: the batch number links the material to supplier documentation and production data. It is the same standard we apply to board — and the one the PPWR requires from August 2026.
